Sinucon

Sinucon is an over-the-counter (OTC) multi-symptom combination medication marketed by Ascendis Health (and subsequently Shanur Healthcare) primarily in South Africa. It is formulated to provide relief from sinus congestion, nasal congestion, headaches, and allergy symptoms associated with the common cold, influenza, and allergic rhinitis. The drug contains a combination of four active small molecule ingredients: the antihistamines chlorpheniramine maleate and phenyltoloxamine citrate, and the decongestants phenylephrine hydrochloride and phenylpropanolamine hydrochloride. These components work by blocking histamine H1 receptors to reduce allergic responses like sneezing and itchy eyes, and by stimulating adrenergic receptors to cause vasoconstriction in the nasal mucosa, thereby reducing swelling and congestion.
