Overview

Sipavibart (formerly AZD3152) is a long-acting monoclonal antibody (LAAB) developed by AstraZeneca for the pre-exposure prophylaxis of COVID-19 in immunocompromised individuals. It is a recombinant human IgG1-based antibody designed to provide broad and potent neutralization across various SARS-CoV-2 variants, including Omicron and ancestral strains. By binding to the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, sipavibart prevents the virus from interacting with the host cell receptor ACE2, thereby blocking viral entry. The drug has received regulatory approval in Japan, the European Union, and Canada for use in adults and adolescents aged 12 and older who are immunocompromised and unlikely to mount an adequate immune response to vaccination.
