Drug intelligence / Profile preview
siPHD1 is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to target and silence the expression of prolyl hydroxylase domain-containing protein 1 (PHD1, also known as EGLN2). PHD1 is an oxygen-sensing enzyme that regulates the stability of hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha (HIF-1α) by targeting it for proteasomal degradation under normoxic conditions. In research settings, siPHD1 is widely utilized to investigate the role of PHD1 in cellular processes such as angiogenesis, cell cycle progression, and cell survival. For instance, silencing PHD1 in pancreatic islets has been shown to enhance VEGF secretion, improve islet viability, and restore glucose-stimulated insulin secretion, suggesting that targeting the PHD1 pathway could improve islet graft survival and function during transplantation.
