SIPI-7623 is a small molecule farnesoid X receptor (FXR) antagonist developed by Nanjing Carephar Pharmaceutical for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and hyperlipidemia. Derived from an extract of Oriental wormwood (*Artemisia capillaris*), the compound acts by antagonizing FXR, also known as the bile acid receptor, which plays a critical role in regulating cholesterol and lipid metabolism. Preclinical studies demonstrated that SIPI-7623 reduces cholesterol and triglyceride levels in HepG2 cell models and ameliorates diet-induced atherosclerosis in rat and rabbit models. The drug has undergone Phase 1 clinical evaluation to assess safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy subjects and patients with hyperlipidemia, though some reports indicate its development status may be suspended.
