Overview

Siponimod is a selective sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) receptor modulator indicated for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS), including clinically isolated syndrome, relapsing-remitting disease, and active secondary progressive disease in adults. It works by binding selectively to S1P receptor subtypes 1 and 5 on lymphocytes and other cell types, thereby reducing the egress of lymphocytes from lymph nodes into the central nervous system. This action decreases immune-mediated inflammation associated with MS. Developed by Novartis, siponimod is administered orally as a tablet and was first approved in the United States in March 2019[3][4][5].
