SiPore is a proprietary biomaterial technology developed by Sigrid Therapeutics, consisting of precisely engineered micron-sized mesoporous silica particles (MSPs) with tailored porosity. Functioning as a non-pharmaceutical medical device or medical food, SiPore acts locally within the gastrointestinal tract without entering the bloodstream. It works as a molecular sieve to physically sequester digestive enzymes, such as alpha-amylase and lipase, thereby preventing the breakdown of complex carbohydrates and fats into absorbable sugars and fatty acids. This mechanical interference reduces postprandial blood glucose levels and caloric uptake, making it a candidate for the management of prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, and obesity. Clinical evidence, including the landmark SHINE study, has demonstrated its efficacy in reducing HbA1c levels and supporting weight management while preserving muscle mass.
