sIPV + bOPV (Candy) is a sequential immunization regimen developed by the Institute of Medical Biology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (IMBCAMS) for the prevention of poliomyelitis. This combination consists of a Sabin strain-based inactivated poliovirus vaccine (sIPV) and a bivalent oral attenuated live poliovirus vaccine (bOPV) formulated as a 1-g dragee candy (pill). The sIPV component is an inactivated vaccine targeting poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3, while the bOPV (Candy) component is a live-attenuated vaccine targeting types 1 and 3. This sequential schedule is designed to provide robust protection while minimizing the risk of vaccine-associated paralytic poliomyelitis (VAPP) by using the inactivated vaccine for initial priming, followed by the oral vaccine to boost mucosal immunity.
