The sIPV-sIPV-bOPV vaccination schedule is a sequential '2+1' immunization regimen developed for the prevention of poliomyelitis. This regimen consists of two initial doses of Sinovac's Sabin-strain inactivated poliovirus vaccine (sIPV) followed by a third dose of bivalent oral poliovirus vaccine (bOPV). The sIPV component is a biologic containing inactivated poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3 produced in Vero cells, while the bOPV component contains live-attenuated poliovirus types 1 and 3. This schedule is designed to provide robust immunity against all three poliovirus serotypes while mitigating the risk of vaccine-associated paralytic poliomyelitis (VAPP) that can occur with all-OPV schedules. Clinical trials have demonstrated high seroconversion rates (100% for types 1 and 3, and 95% for type 2) and a favorable safety profile. This regimen was implemented in China's routine immunization program starting in 2016 to address global IPV supply shortages and support the global polio eradication initiative.
