Overview

SIR-X1 is a small molecule inhibitor of SARM1 (Sterile Alpha and TIR Motif Containing 1) being developed by Sironax. SARM1 is a pro-degenerative NAD+ hydrolase enzyme that plays a central role in axonal degeneration, a process implicated in various neurodegenerative diseases and nerve injuries. By inhibiting SARM1, SIR-X1 aims to prevent the depletion of NAD+ and subsequent axonal breakdown. While Sironax is also developing SIR2501 for neurodegenerative conditions like ALS, SIR-X1 is currently in the discovery and preclinical stages, with development efforts focused on both neurodegenerative diseases and ophthalmology disorders.
