siRBBP6 is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to target and silence the expression of the retinoblastoma binding protein 6 (RBBP6) gene. RBBP6 is a multi-functional protein that is frequently overexpressed in various malignancies, including cervical cancer, where it is associated with cell proliferation and the regulation of apoptosis through the modulation of p53 and BCL-2. By utilizing RNA interference (RNAi) technology, siRBBP6 facilitates the degradation of RBBP6 mRNA, thereby reducing the levels of the RBBP6 protein within the cell. Preclinical research, notably conducted at the University of Pretoria, has investigated the role of siRBBP6 in sensitizing cervical cancer cells to chemotherapeutic agents like cisplatin. These studies suggest that RBBP6 expression is a critical factor in the apoptotic response and growth inhibition of cancer cells, and its knockdown can significantly alter the cellular response to DNA-damaging treatments.
