Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Siriraj Mite Allergen Vaccine (SMAV) is a locally standardized allergen immunotherapy (AIT) product developed at Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, Thailand. It consists of a biological extract of *Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus* (house dust mite) allergens. SMAV is designed for subcutaneous administration to treat perennial allergic rhinitis in patients sensitized to house dust mites. The vaccine works by inducing immunotolerance through the modulation of the immune system, specifically targeting the allergic response to *D. pteronyssinus* allergens to reduce symptoms and medication requirements. It represents a locally developed biologic designed specifically for the Thai population.
