Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sirkava is a branded generic formulation of tiotropium bromide, a long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA). It is indicated for the maintenance treatment of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and emphysema. The drug functions by binding to muscarinic receptors in the bronchial smooth muscle, specifically inhibiting the M3 receptor subtype. This antagonism blocks the action of acetylcholine, the primary neurotransmitter responsible for bronchoconstriction, thereby facilitating airway relaxation and improving airflow. Sirkava is administered once daily via a dry powder inhaler, providing sustained 24-hour bronchodilation and reducing the frequency of COPD exacerbations.
