siRNA against Fkbp5 is a small interfering RNA designed to silence the expression of the FK506-binding protein 5 (FKBP5). FKBP5 is a co-chaperone protein that regulates the sensitivity of the glucocorticoid receptor (GR) and is a key modulator of the stress response. In the context of traumatic brain injury (TBI), research indicates that Fkbp5 is hyperexpressed during peak microglial activation. Experimental studies in murine models have shown that specific knockdown of Fkbp5 in microglia using siRNA can partially reverse the inflammatory phenotype and mitigate long-term epigenetic scars and behavioral deficits, such as anxiety and social interaction disorders, associated with neonatal TBI.
