siRNA against NEDD9 is an experimental small interfering RNA therapeutic designed to silence the expression of the NEDD9 protein. NEDD9 (Neural precursor cell expressed, developmentally down-regulated 9) is a scaffolding protein that has been identified as a regulator of fibrotic remodeling in the pulmonary vasculature of patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). By knocking down NEDD9, the drug aims to reverse fibroproliferative remodeling, reduce extracellular matrix deposition (such as collagen III), and improve pulmonary hemodynamics. Research conducted at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, has demonstrated that intratracheal administration of siNEDD9 in experimental rat models of PAH significantly reduces right ventricular systolic pressure and vascular hypertrophy.
