sirna-cox-2 refers to a small interfering RNA (siRNA) molecule specifically designed to silence the expression of the cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) gene. COX-2 is an inducible enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of prostaglandins, playing a key role in inflammation, tumorigenesis, and several pathological processes. By targeting the mRNA of COX-2, sirna-cox-2 mediates its degradation via the RNA interference pathway, resulting in reduced COX-2 protein production. This targeted gene-silencing approach is considered highly selective compared to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), which may have off-target effects. Preclinical experiments have demonstrated the utility of sirna-cox-2 in cancer models by reducing tumor growth, inflammation, and cell proliferation, as well as in studies of hypertrophic scarring and related pathologies[1][3][4].
