Overview

siRNA PVT1 exon 9 refers to a set of custom-designed small interfering RNA (siRNA) molecules that specifically target and silence exon 9 of the plasmacytoma variant translocation 1 (PVT1) gene, a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) located at the 8q24 chromosomal region. PVT1 exon 9 is known to play an oncogenic role, particularly in aggressive prostate cancer (especially in men of African ancestry) and claudin-low triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). Developed as a research-stage therapeutic candidate and tool by researchers at the City University of New York (CUNY) and patented by the Research Foundation of the City University of New York, silencing PVT1 exon 9 has been shown to induce apoptosis, G1 cell cycle arrest, and loss of PCNA expression in prostate cancer models, as well as re-expression of claudin 4 and inhibition of cell migration in TNBC models.
