Drug intelligence / Profile preview
siRNA targeting β2m and CIITA (siβ2m+CIITA) is a preclinical combination of cholesterol-modified small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) designed to downregulate major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I and class II expression. Developed by researchers at Sun Yat-Sen University, the therapy is delivered ex vivo to donor kidneys during normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) prior to transplantation. By silencing beta-2-microglobulin (β2m), a key component of MHC class I, and the class II transactivator (CIITA), a master regulator of MHC class II, the treatment aims to mitigate acute rejection and improve renal allograft survival and function.
