siRNA targeting CD44 V5 is a research-use-only short interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to knock down the expression of the CD44 variant 5 (CD44v5) isoform. CD44v5 is an alternative splicing variant of the CD44 cell-surface glycoprotein, which has been implicated in tumor cell migration, invasion, and metastasis in various cancers, including renal cell carcinoma, cervical carcinoma, and breast cancer. In preclinical studies, transfection of CD44v5 siRNA has been utilized to investigate the role of this specific isoform in growth factor-induced cell migration and resistance to apoptosis, demonstrating that while CD44v5 may regulate migration in certain cell types, its knockdown does not significantly alter sensitivity to doxorubicin or Fas-mediated apoptosis in breast cancer initiating cells.
