Overview

siRNA targeting HLRCC-TC1 is an experimental RNA interference (RNAi) therapeutic designed to silence the expression of HLRCC-TC1, a novel gene identified as a specific biomarker and therapeutic target in Hereditary Leiomyomatosis and Renal Cell Carcinoma (HLRCC). HLRCC is a rare, aggressive kidney cancer characterized by germline mutations in the fumarate hydratase (FH) gene. Research conducted at the University of Michigan demonstrated that HLRCC-TC1 is specifically upregulated in HLRCC tumors and that its knockdown via siRNA significantly inhibits the proliferation of HLRCC-associated renal cell carcinoma cell lines (e.g., UOK262). This suggests that HLRCC-TC1 plays a critical role in the oncogenic progression of FH-deficient tumors and represents a potential precision medicine approach for this rare malignancy.
