Overview

siRNA targeting STING is a small interfering RNA designed to silence the expression of the Stimulator of Interferon Genes (STING) protein. STING is a central adapter protein in the cGAS-STING pathway, which detects cytosolic DNA (often resulting from DNA damage or viral infection) and triggers a proinflammatory response through the activation of TBK1, IRF3, and NF-κB. By degrading STING mRNA, this siRNA prevents the translation of the STING protein, thereby attenuating the production of inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6, MCP-1, and IFN-β. In preclinical research, particularly in models of atherosclerosis and DNA damage-induced inflammation, silencing STING has been shown to reduce vascular inflammation and plaque progression, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic target for chronic inflammatory conditions.
