Drug intelligence / Profile preview
siRNA targeting transferrin receptor 1 (TfR1) is a small interfering RNA designed to knock down the expression of TfR1 (also known as CD71), a transmembrane glycoprotein that mediates cellular iron uptake. In preclinical research, silencing TfR1 with siRNA has been investigated as a therapeutic strategy to reduce intracellular iron accumulation, oxidative stress, and ferroptosis. It has been studied in in vitro models of hemophilic synovitis, pyogenic spondylitis, and osteoarthritis to disrupt the vicious cycle of iron overload and inflammatory signaling (such as the NF-κB and cGAS/STING pathways).
