Overview

Rapamune + mycophenolate mofetil + steroid is a triple-drug immunosuppressive regimen used in kidney transplantation to prevent organ rejection. The regimen consists of sirolimus (Rapamune), an mTOR inhibitor; mycophenolate mofetil (CellCept), an antimetabolite that inhibits lymphocyte proliferation; and a corticosteroid, which provides broad anti-inflammatory effects. This combination is often explored as a calcineurin inhibitor (CNI)-free alternative to reduce CNI-associated nephrotoxicity. A pilot clinical trial (NCT01005706) specifically investigated this regimen in African-American kidney transplant recipients to evaluate its safety and efficacy compared to tacrolimus-based therapies.
