sirukumab

Sirukumab is a fully human monoclonal IgG1 kappa antibody that selectively binds to and neutralizes circulating interleukin-6 (IL-6), a proinflammatory cytokine implicated in the pathogenesis of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. By inhibiting IL-6-mediated signaling, sirukumab reduces inflammation and immune activation. It was developed primarily for the treatment of moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis but has also been investigated in other inflammatory conditions including giant cell arteritis, lupus nephritis, major depressive disorder, asthma, atherosclerosis, COVID-19 infections, and polymyalgia rheumatica. Sirukumab differs from other IL-6 pathway inhibitors by targeting the IL-6 cytokine itself rather than its receptor[2][4][5][7][8].
