Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sishen Pills (also known as Sishen Wan) is a classic traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) patent formula widely used to treat gastrointestinal disorders, particularly chronic diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) such as ulcerative colitis. The formula is traditionally indicated for diarrhea associated with spleen-kidney yang deficiency. It is a multi-herb preparation typically composed of four primary botanical ingredients: Psoraleae Fructus (*Psoralea corylifolia*), Myristicae Semen (*Myristica fragrans*), Euodiae Fructus (*Evodia rutaecarpa*), and Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus (*Schisandra chinensis*), often prepared with fresh ginger (*Zingiber officinale*) and jujube (*Ziziphus jujuba*) as excipients. Sishen Pills exert their therapeutic effects through multi-component, multi-target mechanisms, including the regulation of inflammatory pathways (such as NLRP3/ASC/Caspase-1 and PI3K/Akt), reduction of oxidative stress, modulation of the immune response (restoring Treg/Th17 balance), and restoration of gut microbiota homeostasis.
