Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Sishen Wan** (also known as Sishen Pill or Four Miracle Pill) is a classic traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula first recorded during the Song and Ming dynasties. It is traditionally indicated for 'cock-crow' or early-morning diarrhea caused by Spleen and Kidney Yang deficiency. The formula consists of four primary herbal ingredients—*Psoralea corylifolia* (Bu Gu Zhi), *Myristica fragrans* (Rou Dou Kou), *Evodia rutaecarpa* (Wu Zhu Yu), and *Schisandra chinensis* (Wu Wei Zi)—classically prepared with fresh ginger (*Zingiber officinale*) and jujube (*Ziziphus jujuba*). Modern pharmacological research indicates that Sishen Wan alleviates gastrointestinal disorders, such as diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) and ulcerative colitis, by improving intestinal barrier integrity, regulating endoplasmic reticulum stress, promoting autophagy, and restoring gut microbiota balance. It is widely manufactured and marketed in China as an over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription proprietary Chinese medicine.
