Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Trapeze Plus is a fixed-dose combination medication containing sitagliptin and metformin, developed by Scotmann Pharmaceuticals for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Sitagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that enhances the body's natural ability to lower blood sugar by increasing levels of incretin hormones, such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). These hormones stimulate insulin secretion and suppress glucagon release in a glucose-dependent manner. Metformin is a biguanide that reduces hepatic glucose production, decreases intestinal absorption of glucose, and improves insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization. Together, these agents provide complementary mechanisms to improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. Trapeze Plus is available in both immediate-release and extended-release (Trapeze Plus XR) formulations.
