Overview

Sivritasin sodium (likely a variant name or misspelling of sivelestat sodium) is a selective, competitive inhibitor of neutrophil elastase, a serine protease released by activated neutrophils during inflammatory responses. Neutrophil elastase is known to contribute to lung tissue damage and increased vascular permeability, which are hallmark features of acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). By inhibiting this enzyme, sivritasin sodium aims to mitigate pulmonary inflammation and prevent the progression of severe pneumonia to ARDS. The drug is administered intravenously and is being evaluated in a multicenter, non-randomized, bidirectional cohort phase 4 pilot study in China, specifically targeting pediatric patients with severe pneumonia to improve clinical outcomes and prevent respiratory failure.
