Siwu Tang

Siwu Tang is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation composed of four primary herbs: *Rehmannia glutinosa* (prepared), *Angelica sinensis*, *Paeonia lactiflora*, and *Ligusticum chuanxiong*. Traditionally used to tonify blood and regulate menstruation, it is being investigated by researchers at Singapore General Hospital for its potential anti-thrombotic and "blood-activating" properties. The formulation is hypothesized to influence platelet function and the coagulation profile, potentially increasing bleeding tendency. Clinical research, including a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover study (NCT00162110), has evaluated its effects on healthy volunteers both as a standalone treatment and in combination with anti-platelet agents like aspirin. The active phytochemicals within the formula, such as ferulic acid and ligustrazine, are believed to contribute to its ability to inhibit platelet aggregation and modulate clotting factors.
