SJ-0021

SJ-0021 (also known as SJ0021) is a long-acting recombinant human erythropoiesis-stimulating agent (ESA) developed by Suzhou Shengji Pharmaceutical. It is a PEGylated version of recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEPO), designed to provide a significantly longer half-life and duration of action compared to standard epoetin alfa or beta. By acting as an agonist at the erythropoietin receptor (EPOR) on erythroid progenitor cells in the bone marrow, SJ-0021 stimulates the proliferation and differentiation of red blood cells, thereby increasing hemoglobin levels. The drug is administered via subcutaneous injection and is intended to reduce the frequency of administration required to manage anemia in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), including those on dialysis. It is currently in Phase 2 clinical development.
