SK-07

SK-07 is a small molecule, highly selective kappa opioid receptor (KOR) agonist developed by Guangzhou Consun Pharmaceutical. It is specifically designed for the treatment of chronic kidney disease-associated pruritus (CKD-aP), also known as uremic pruritus, which is a common and distressing symptom in patients undergoing hemodialysis. The drug works by activating KORs on peripheral sensory neurons and immune cells, which inhibits the transmission of itch signals and reduces the release of pro-inflammatory mediators. Unlike mu-opioid receptor agonists, SK-07 is designed to have limited blood-brain barrier penetration to minimize central nervous system side effects such as sedation, respiratory depression, or addiction potential. It is currently undergoing clinical evaluation to provide a targeted therapeutic option for patients suffering from the debilitating itch associated with end-stage renal disease.
