Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SK2105 is a long-acting, subcutaneous implant formulation of buprenorphine being developed by Shenzhen Sciencare Pharmaceutical for the treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD) and alcohol use disorder (AUD). Utilizing Sciencare's proprietary long-acting drug delivery (LADD) technology, which is based on a specialized polymer hydrogel, the implant is designed to provide sustained therapeutic levels of buprenorphine for up to six months following a single administration. Buprenorphine acts as a partial agonist at the mu-opioid receptor and an antagonist at the kappa-opioid receptor, a mechanism that helps suppress cravings and withdrawal symptoms in patients with substance use disorders. SK2105 is currently in the IND-enabling stage of development, aiming to provide a more convenient and adherent treatment option compared to daily sublingual or monthly injectable formulations.
