SK2110 is a long-acting subcutaneous implant of esketamine being developed by Shenzhen Sciencare Pharmaceutical for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD). The product utilizes Sciencare's proprietary long-acting drug delivery (LADD) technology, which involves a biodegradable polymer matrix that provides sustained release of the active pharmaceutical ingredient over an extended duration. Esketamine, the S-enantiomer of ketamine, functions as a non-competitive N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist. By modulating glutamatergic neurotransmission, it provides rapid-acting antidepressant effects. The implant formulation is designed to improve therapeutic adherence and provide stable drug levels, potentially reducing the side effects associated with peak plasma concentrations seen in intermittent dosing. As of early 2024, SK2110 is in the IND-enabling stage of development.
