Overview

SKA-31 is a **synthetic small molecule activator of calcium-activated potassium channels**, specifically the intermediate-conductance KCa3.1 (also known as IK or SK4) and small-conductance KCa2 channels (SK1/SK2/SK3)[1][2][3][4][7]. It **increases the open probability of these channels**, leading to endothelial hyperpolarization, vasodilation, and increased vascular relaxation. SKA-31 has been shown to **potentiate endothelium-derived hyperpolarizing factor (EDHF)-type dilations, lower blood pressure in mice, and increase coronary and systemic vascular flow**[1][3][4]. It is used as a pharmacological tool compound to study the function and therapeutic potential of KCa2 and KCa3 channel activation in vivo, particularly for investigating the role of endothelial dysfunction, hypertension, atherosclerosis, and age-related cardiovascular impairment[1][3][4][7]. SKA-31 is not approved for human use; research is primarily preclinical.
