Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SKE-154 (also known as SKE154) is a novel, non-cytotoxic small molecule agonist of estrogen-related receptor gamma (ERRγ). Developed by researchers at CHA University and Kyungsung University, SKE-154 acts as a potent activator of ERRγ, promoting adult neurogenesis in the hippocampal subgranular zone (SGZ) and enhancing the maturation and functional integration of newborn neurons. It upregulates brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)/tropomyosin receptor kinase B (TrkB)/cAMP-response element binding protein (CREB) signaling, and modulates the serotonergic system by upregulating markers such as EGR1, TPH2, SERT, and 5-HT Rc1A. SKE-154 is being investigated as a potential therapeutic candidate for neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders.
