Overview

This investigational topical therapy, developed by the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, utilizes exosomes derived from stem cells to treat diabetic foot ulcers. Although the clinical trial documentation uses the term "exome," it refers to exosomes—extracellular vesicles that play a crucial role in intercellular communication. These exosomes are loaded with bioactive proteins, lipids, and RNAs that promote tissue regeneration. The drug aims to accelerate the healing of chronic wounds by stimulating angiogenesis, reducing local inflammation, and enhancing the migration and proliferation of skin cells such as fibroblasts and keratinocytes. It is currently being evaluated in a Phase 2 clinical trial to assess its safety and efficacy in patients with diabetic foot complications.
