SkinJect Patch is a novel dissolvable microneedle delivery system designed for the localized treatment of non-melanoma skin cancers, specifically basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Developed by SkinJect Inc., a subsidiary of Medicus Pharma Ltd., the patch features a cellulose-based array of 400 microneedles, each 750 microns in length, which are tip-loaded with the chemotherapeutic agent doxorubicin. Upon application to the skin, the microneedles penetrate the dermis and dissolve within approximately 15 minutes, releasing the drug directly into the tumor site. The therapeutic effect is achieved through a dual mechanism: direct cytotoxicity to cancer cells via DNA intercalation and topoisomerase II inhibition, and the induction of an immunogenic response through the activation of the calreticulin pathway. This localized approach aims to maximize efficacy at the tumor site while minimizing the systemic toxicity typically associated with conventional chemotherapy.
