SKL24741 is a novel small molecule antiepileptic drug candidate developed by SK Biopharmaceuticals and its US subsidiary, SK Life Science. It acts primarily as an inhibitor of voltage-gated sodium channels, with preclinical studies suggesting a higher affinity for the inactivated state of these channels. This selectivity may allow for more targeted suppression of pathological neuronal hyperexcitability associated with epilepsy while sparing normal neuronal function. The compound is being investigated for the treatment of epilepsy and has demonstrated efficacy in various animal seizure models.
