SKP-1041 is a delayed-release tablet formulation of the non-benzodiazepine hypnotic **zaleplon**, developed by Somnus Therapeutics under license from SkyePharma. The drug utilizes SkyePharma's proprietary **Geoclock™** technology to achieve a pharmacokinetic profile where the active ingredient is released approximately 2 to 3 hours after ingestion. This delayed-release mechanism is specifically designed to address **sleep maintenance insomnia** by preventing middle-of-the-night awakenings while avoiding the next-day residual cognitive or motor impairment often associated with longer-acting sleep medications.
