Overview

SKYCellflu is a cell culture-derived inactivated influenza vaccine developed by SK bioscience, a subsidiary of SK Chemicals. Unlike traditional influenza vaccines produced in embryonated chicken eggs, SKYCellflu is manufactured using Madin-Darby Canine Kidney (MDCK) cell culture technology. This production method reduces the risk of egg-protein allergies and minimizes the potential for egg-adaptive mutations that can decrease vaccine effectiveness. The vaccine contains purified inactivated influenza virus surface antigens (hemagglutinin) and is available in both trivalent (NBP607) and quadrivalent (NBP607-QIV) formulations. It is indicated for the prevention of seasonal influenza in individuals aged 6 months and older. SKYCellflu was the first cell-based influenza vaccine in the world to receive WHO prequalification, highlighting its global quality and safety standards.
