SL209 is a long-acting glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist currently under clinical investigation for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Developed by Beijing SL Pharmaceutical, the drug functions by activating the GLP-1 receptor, which leads to glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppression of inappropriate glucagon secretion, and slowing of gastric emptying. These mechanisms work synergistically to lower blood glucose levels and may also contribute to weight loss. As a long-acting formulation, it is designed to provide sustained glycemic control with less frequent dosing compared to short-acting GLP-1 mimetics.
