SL25.1131 is a novel, nonselective, potent, and reversible monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor of the oxazoloquinolinone chemical series. It inhibits both MAO-A and MAO-B isoforms with high affinity, and increases levels of dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin in the brain while lowering their deaminated metabolites. Preclinical studies suggest the compound can restore dopaminergic tone and motor activity in animal models of Parkinson's disease, and it may also enhance the therapeutic effects and duration of action of L-DOPA, the standard treatment for Parkinson's. It was studied as a potential symptomatic treatment for early phase Parkinson’s disease and as an adjunct to L-DOPA therapy during early and late disease phases. The drug was developed by Sanofi (formerly Sanofi-Synthélabo) and was discontinued following Phase 1 clinical development[1][2].
