The SLAIN2 FS peptide vaccine is an experimental cancer vaccine candidate targeting a frameshift (FS) neoantigen derived from the SLAIN2 (SLAIN motif family member 2) gene. SLAIN2 is a protein involved in microtubule organization and growth. Frameshift mutations or aberrant splicing in tumor cells can produce novel, highly immunogenic peptides that are absent in normal tissues. This vaccine was developed by researchers at the Biodesign Institute of Arizona State University as part of a broader effort to create a universal prophylactic cancer vaccine. In preclinical studies using the BALB-NeuT transgenic mouse model of mammary cancer, the SLAIN2 FS antigen demonstrated the ability to delay tumor progression and elicit humoral immune responses. While tested as a standalone component, it is primarily intended to be part of a multi-antigen pool to provide broad protection against various cancer types.
