SLIT Cisplatin

SLIT Cisplatin (Sustained-release Lipid Inhalation Targeting Cisplatin) is an investigational liposomal formulation of the chemotherapy agent cisplatin, specifically designed for administration via inhalation. Developed by Insmed Incorporated, this formulation utilizes a lipid-based delivery system to achieve high, sustained concentrations of cisplatin directly within the lung tissue while minimizing the systemic exposure and associated toxicities (such as nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity) typically seen with intravenous administration. The primary therapeutic focus for SLIT Cisplatin was the treatment of relapsed or progressive osteosarcoma that has metastasized to the lungs. Once inhaled and released from the liposomes, cisplatin acts as a DNA alkylating agent, forming intra-strand and inter-strand cross-links that disrupt DNA replication and transcription, leading to cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in malignant cells.
