Overview

SLN-T refers to a formulation of topotecan-loaded solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) designed for chemotherapeutic delivery, particularly against colorectal cancer. In this context, "SLN" stands for solid lipid nanoparticle and "T" denotes the encapsulated drug, topotecan. The SLN-T system is engineered to improve the pharmacokinetic profile and antitumor efficacy of topotecan by providing controlled release and enhanced bioavailability. Studies have shown that these nanoparticles can be further incorporated into thermoresponsive hydrogel systems (TRHS) for rectal administration, resulting in sustained drug release, reduced toxicity, and improved therapeutic outcomes in preclinical models[4]. The mechanism of action is based on the cytotoxic activity of topotecan as a DNA topoisomerase I inhibitor.
