Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SLS-free aqueous cream is a topical emollient and moisturizer formulated as an oil-in-water emulsion, specifically designed to exclude sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS). Standard Aqueous Cream BP traditionally uses SLS as an emulsifying agent, but SLS has been identified as a skin irritant that can disrupt the stratum corneum, increase transepidermal water loss (TEWL), and exacerbate conditions like atopic dermatitis. The SLS-free version maintains skin barrier integrity and hydration without the irritancy potential associated with SLS-containing formulations. It is primarily used for the management of xerotic skin conditions and eczema.
