Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SM Fibro is a multi-ingredient antioxidant supplement used as an adjunct therapy in the treatment of oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF). It is formulated as a capsule containing a combination of alpha lipoic acid, beta-carotene, lycopene, vitamin E, and essential minerals including zinc, selenium, and copper. The supplement works by scavenging reactive oxygen species and reducing oxidative stress, which are key factors in the progression of OSMF, a chronic precancerous condition often linked to areca nut chewing. In clinical trials conducted at The Oxford Dental College, Hospital and Research Center, SM Fibro was evaluated in combination with intralesional injections of hydrocortisone and hyaluronidase to improve clinical outcomes such as mouth opening and burning sensation.
