Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sm-TSP-2 + Alhydrogel + GLA-AF is a recombinant protein subunit vaccine candidate developed for the prevention of intestinal and hepatic disease caused by the helminth parasite *Schistosoma mansoni*. The vaccine consists of the recombinant tetraspanin-2 (Sm-TSP-2) protein, which is a critical component of the parasite's outer tegument. It is formulated with Alhydrogel (aluminum hydroxide) and the Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) agonist GLA-AF (glucopyranosyl lipid A aqueous formulation) to enhance immunogenicity. By inducing antibodies against Sm-TSP-2, the vaccine aims to disrupt the integrity of the adult worm's tegument, thereby impairing its development and survival within the host. Development is supported by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).
