SM08955 is an investigational small molecule oral drug developed by Samumed (now known as Biosplice Therapeutics) that acts as a selective inhibitor of the Wnt signaling pathway. It is designed to modulate the activity of specific protein kinases in the Wnt pathway, with the goal of targeting diseases associated with aberrant Wnt signaling, such as degenerative and fibrotic diseases. Primary indications under investigation include androgenetic alopecia (pattern hair loss) and knee osteoarthritis. SM08955 is believed to function by inhibiting the activity of CDC-like kinase 2 (CLK2), which in turn alters the alternative splicing of pre-mRNA for genes involved in the Wnt pathway, thereby reducing overactive Wnt signaling and promoting tissue regeneration and repair.
