Small interfering RNA targeting Livin is an experimental RNA interference (RNAi) therapeutic designed to treat various cancers, including malignant melanoma, colon cancer, and bladder cancer. Livin (also known as BIRC7) is a member of the inhibitor of apoptosis protein (IAP) family that is overexpressed in many tumors and contributes to treatment resistance. By specifically silencing Livin mRNA, this siRNA reduces Livin protein levels, thereby activating caspase-3 and inducing apoptosis while inhibiting tumor cell proliferation. Preclinical studies have explored its use as a monotherapy and in combination with chemotherapy (such as mitomycin-C) to enhance sensitivity. Delivery strategies, such as single-chain antibody-mediated systems, are being investigated to improve tumor-specific uptake and efficacy in xenograft models.
