Drug intelligence / Profile preview
"Smart glucagon" is a glucose-responsive glucagon developed by Protomer Technologies, which was acquired by Eli Lilly in July 2021. This therapeutic candidate is designed to prevent hypoglycemia by automatically activating and releasing glucagon when blood glucose levels fall dangerously low. It aims to work in conjunction with normal insulin treatment, potentially eliminating the need for a separate rescue glucagon kit. The development of smart glucagon leverages Protomer's proprietary Molecular Engineering of Protein Sensors (MEPS) platform.
